Federal Express Corp (FedEx), a US-based express transportation company, has launched a new logistics facility in Manchester, UK.

The 3,530sqm facility features advanced technologies, including an automated sorting system and X-ray machines, which increase throughput, speed, and efficiency. Additionally, it also offers a more modern working environment for team members.

The new facility relocates FedEx’s Manchester operations, enhancing its capabilities in the Northwest. Located near the Manchester Airport, it reinforces the company’s commitment to advancing the UK’s air cargo infrastructure. Furthermore, it aims to assist businesses in both domestic and international trade through strengthened parcel and freight capabilities.

It has been strategically positioned in the Northwest corridor, a region that accounts for 22.5 per cent of the UK’s total freight Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The new site capitalises on FedEx’s earlier expansion at its cargo facility at in the UK.

Steve Johnson, managing director of UK Air Operations, described the opening of the new Manchester facility as a significant milestone for FedEx.

“With the rising demand for cargo aviation and the rapid growth of e-commerce, we recognise the need to reconfigure our network to prioritise both speed and efficiency,” he added.
